In Southeast Asia and Europe, there are reported cases where humans have been infected by close contact with infected poultry or waterfowl. However, there are no reported cases in humans, wild birds, or poultry in North America. The current risks to humans is very low as the strain does not spread easily among humans. There are no known cases of humans contracting the avian influenza (H5N1 strain) from the wild bird population.

Wild bird feeders are encoured to enjoy regular outdoor activities as well as bird feeding and bird watching! There is no reason to stop attracting wild birds to your yard because of the avian flu.
